Bank employee accused of N$200 million theft

The Namibian Police are hunting for a Bank Windhoek employee Nico Hijendepi Rebebe who is accused of stealing N$200 million from the bank.

It is alleged that the theft took place at Opuwo at about 11h00 on Saturday, when a 30-year-old suspect transferred N$200 million into two bank accounts in tranches of N$100 million each.

This is according to a police crime report released on Sunday.

The transfer of the money is alleged to have been done without the authorisation of the bank manager at Opuwo.

According to the bank manager, the two accounts to which the money was transferred were opened on 20 December last year.

The suspect disappeared after leaving the bank and has not been arrested.

The police are investigating the matter.
